The WHY is Important
As we approach the end of our financial year, focus shifts towards finalising budgets, reviewing OKRs, and
forward planning. While the what and how of OKRs are important, it is the why behind them that drives a
high-performance culture. The “why” connects individual effort to collective success.
Revisiting our OKRs is an opportunity to reflect on what has worked, what hasn’t, and where we need to
sharpen our focus. It allows us to reset priorities and ensure that every objective we pursue adds real value
to the business. In a high-performance environment, this level of intentional alignment is important.
Equally important is the role of collaboration. High performance does not happen in silos. By aligning OKRs
across teams, we create a shared sense of direction and encourage cross-functional support. This
ensures that everyone understands not only their role, but how it fits into the bigger picture.
As we refine our OKRs, let’s keep the “why” in mind. Let’s ensure our goals are not only ambitious, but
purposeful, because when people are connected to the reason behind what they do, performance follows
naturally.
